Summer of Animation Contest Rules
The purpose of this animation workshop is to give you a chance to win a NEW iPad and have your animation showcased at the next Indy Film Fest.
It's important to remember that not winning doesn't diminish the quality or excitement of your work. Animation is an art form, and art is subjective.
The main goal of this workshop is to get inspired by a preferred animation style and thoroughly explore the tools and techniques needed to create an animated video clip in that style: CEL, 2D, 3D, Stop-motion, or Motion Graphics.
To be eligible to win one of two iPads, you must submit an animated video clip with a completed Participation Form.
At the Film Screening and Awards Ceremony on Saturday, June 29, from 1 pm to 3 pm in the Carmel Clay Library’s Community Room, a compilation reel of everyone's submitted animated work will be presented. Additional awards will be given for the best Animation Story and Storyboard Art in the form of Roberts Camera gift cards.
You may enter as many categories as you wish: Animation Story, Storyboard Art, or Animated Video Clip.
Collaboration with family and friends is allowed, but if you win an award, only one person will receive it. You'll need to decide how to divide the prize among your collaborators.
To be eligible to win an award, you must attend at least one class and the Film Screening and Awards Ceremony on Saturday, June 29. If you can't participate, have someone come to represent you. If you are a winner but can't attend the Screening and Awards Ceremony and no one can represent you, the prize will go to the runner-up in that category.
Contest participants must visit the Carmel Clay Public Library's Digital Media (DML) Lab to complete a Contest Participation Form and drop off their work. The DML staff will help participants complete the necessary paperwork (e.g., the Animator's Name, the Video's Title, etc.) to enter the contest.
Contest participants must export their animated video clip as a MOV or MP4 file from their devices. The name of the video file must match the title of the animated film provided on the participation form. DML staff will help to transfer the video to an external hard drive for review by the contest judges and will verify the playback of the video file on the external hard drive.
If submitting an Animation Story, it should be typed and printed with the page numbers and not stapled. Storyboard submissions should be photocopied and not original artwork.
Participants with Animation Story or Storyboard Art will place their work and a completed participation form in a provided 10" x 13" manila envelope and write their names on the outside. Animation Story or Storyboard Art will not be returned.
Participants must submit their Animated Video Clip, Animation Story, or Storyboard Art to the Digital Media Lab by 7 pm on Monday, June 24.
